What we fix
What does gutter and drainage repair cover on a Roseville home?
Gutter and drainage repair means fixing the parts that stop a gutter from carrying water away. That covers hangers that bent, runs that lost their slope, seams and end caps that drip, gutters pulling off the fascia (the board the gutter is screwed to), and downspouts that dump water at the wall. We do this work with cleaning, downspout clearing and guard installs across Roseville, CA and nearby Placer County, in ZIP codes 95661, 95678 and 95747.
Age is the main reason. The median Roseville house was built in 1998, so many original gutters are now 25 to 35 years old. The oldest are in Old Roseville around Vernon Street and Royer Park, and in Diamond Oaks and Kaseberg-Kingswood. Sun City Roseville and Woodcreek Oaks have 1990s gutters that are reaching the age where hangers and end caps fail.
Here is what we repair most:
- Sagging gutters re-hung with new hidden hangers
- Lost pitch reset so water runs to the downspout again
- Leaking seams, corners and end caps cleaned and resealed
- Gutters pulling away from the fascia reattached into solid wood
- Loose or crushed downspouts refastened or replaced
- Spike-and-ferrule gutters converted to screw-in hangers
- Downspout extensions, splash blocks and pop-up drains reset so water lands away from the slab
One crew cleans and repairs in the same trip, so you don't have to book a second company. Small repairs are usually done during our gutter cleaning visit. A blocked underground line is a job for downspout and drain line clearing.
Clean but overflowing
Why does a clean gutter still overflow?
A clean gutter that still overflows almost always has one of four problems: bent hangers, lost pitch, a gutter or downspout too small for the roof, or a gap that lets water run behind the gutter. These are repair problems. Cleaning alone won't fix them, which is why we check for them on every visit.
Bent hangers from years of debris
Hangers are the metal straps or brackets inside the gutter, usually one every two feet or so. When wet leaves and tile grit sit in a gutter for two, three or four winters, the weight bends them. Once a few hangers bend, the gutter dips between them and holds water. It keeps holding water even after it's cleaned.
Lost pitch
A gutter should slope gently toward the downspout. When the slope flattens or reverses, water sits in the low spot and spills over the front. You'll often see a line of standing water or a dark stain inside the gutter after the rain stops. Re-pitching means loosening the run, setting a new line and re-hanging it.

Undersized gutters and downspouts
Most Roseville tract homes from the 1990s and 2000s have 5-inch aluminum K-style gutters with 2×3 downspouts. That works for most roofs. Where a big roof section drains into a short gutter with one downspout, heavy rain can outrun it. The fix is an extra downspout, a larger 3×4 downspout, or in some cases a 6-inch gutter on that run.
Water getting behind the gutter
Sometimes the gutter is fine but water runs down the fascia behind it. The usual cause is a gap at the drip edge, the metal strip at the roof edge that should send water into the gutter. You'll see stains on the fascia or stucco right under the roofline. We photograph it and quote the fix, or refer it to a roofer.

Signs to look for
How can you tell your gutters need repair, not just cleaning?
The clearest signs are a gutter that dips in the middle, a seam or corner that drips when the gutter is empty, gaps between the gutter and the fascia, and stains on the stucco or fascia under one spot. If you see any of these after a cleaning, the problem is the gutter itself.
Walk around the house during or just after a rain and look for:
- A wavy or dipping line along the gutter's front edge
- Drips from corners and joints, often with a rust-colored or dark streak below
- Water spilling over one section while the rest drains fine
- A gap you can see daylight through between the gutter's back and the fascia
- A downspout that's pulled loose from the wall or crushed at the elbow

Gutter parts explained
Which gutter parts fail most on Roseville homes?
On Roseville homes the parts that fail most are hangers, seams and end caps, plus spike-and-ferrule fasteners on older homes. Concrete tile grit and oak debris add weight, and 30 summers of sun dry out sealant. Here's what each part does and what we do when it fails.
| Part | What goes wrong | Usual repair |
|---|---|---|
| Hangers (hidden brackets) | Bent by debris weight, screws pulled loose | Replace with new hangers screwed into the fascia |
| Seams and corners (miters, often hand-cut) | Sealant dries and cracks, joints drip | Clean, dry and reseal with gutter sealant |
| End caps | Sealant fails or cap gets knocked loose | Reseat, rivet and reseal |
| Outlets (where the downspout drops) | Sealant cracks, outlet sags | Reseal or replace the outlet |
| Downspouts and elbows | Crushed, loose straps, separated joints | Refasten, replace the elbow or section |
| Spike and ferrule | Spike works loose from the fascia | Convert to screw-in hangers |
| Drip edge flashing | Gap at the roof edge lets water run behind the gutter | Photographed and quoted, or referred to a roofer |
Spike-and-ferrule failures on older homes
A spike and ferrule is a long nail driven through the face of the gutter, through a metal sleeve, into the fascia. It was common before hidden hangers took over, and you'll find it in Old Roseville, Diamond Oaks and parts of central 95678. As the wood swells and shrinks, the spikes back out and the gutter drops away. Driving them back in rarely holds, so we switch to screw-in hangers.
K-style vs OG (ogee) gutters
K-style gutters have a flat back and a decorative front that looks a bit like crown molding. Most Roseville tract homes have them. OG or ogee gutters have a curved S-shaped front and show up on some older homes. OG parts are harder to match, so an old OG run may be better replaced than patched. How we do it
How does a gutter repair visit work?
Most small repairs take one visit, often alongside a cleaning, and follow six steps. We clear the gutter, find what's wrong and give you a price. We start only once you say yes, then hose-test the run and send photos of the fix.
- Clean the run first. You can't judge pitch or find a leaking seam under a load of wet leaves.
- Hose-test the gutter to see where water pools, drips or spills.
- Check the fascia. If the wood is soft, a new hanger won't hold.
- Text you photos and a price for the fix.
- Repair once you approve. Re-hang, re-pitch, reseal or refasten.
- Hose-test again and send after photos as a dated record.
We never walk on concrete tile, which can crack under a boot. If we find cracked tiles or rotted fascia, we photograph it and tell you who to call for that part. Step by step, the visit matches how we work on every job.
Repair prices
How much does gutter repair cost in Roseville?
In the Roseville area, a gutter repair usually costs $117 to $1,037, according to Homeyou's Rocklin gutter repair cost guide (updated September 2026). We quote each repair on site, after the gutter is clean and we can see it.
What moves the price:
- How many feet need re-hanging or re-pitching
- Number of seams, corners and end caps to reseal
- Height. Second-story runs take more ladder work
- Condition of the fascia. Soft wood has to be dealt with before a hanger will hold
Small fixes found during a cleaning, like resealing one dripping corner or reattaching a loose downspout, are priced on the spot before we do them. No surprise lines on the invoice. For cleaning prices and add-ons, see what a cleaning costs.
In California, any job over $1,000 in labor and materials together needs a licensed contractor (raised from $500 on January 1, 2025, under AB 2622). Repair work on this site is done by [PARTNER NAME], CSLB #[CSLB #]. You can check any license on the CSLB site.
Repair or replace
Should you repair or replace your gutters?
Repair makes sense when the aluminum is sound and the problems are in a few spots: some bent hangers, a leaking corner, one run that lost its pitch. Replacement makes sense when seams leak all along the house, the metal is bent or corroded in many places, or the gutters are too small for the roof. If yours are original 1990s gutters, ask about both before you decide.
New gutters are usually seamless aluminum, colour-matched to the paint, so the only joints left are at corners and outlets. After any replacement, the crew runs a magnet sweep over the lawn and beds to pick up stray nails and screws.
What does gutter replacement in Roseville cost?
For scale, This Old House puts the average cost of new gutters in Roseville at about $1,150. That is a useful benchmark when you weigh gutter replacement in Roseville against a repair.
| Repair is usually enough | Replacement is worth pricing |
|---|---|
| One or two runs sag | Gutters sag or leak on most sides of the house |
| A few seams or end caps drip | Seams drip everywhere, sealant has failed throughout |
| Fascia is solid | Fascia is rotted along long stretches |
| 5-inch gutter drains the roof in normal rain | Gutter overflows every heavy storm, even clean and pitched |
Our guide to repairing or replacing gutters walks through the decision. For new gutters, see seamless gutter installation.
Timing
When is the right time to book a repair?
September to late October, before the rain arrives. Almost all of Roseville's rain falls between October and April, and February is the wettest month on average at 4.6 inches (WeatherSpark). A sagging run that's fixed in October won't dump water at your foundation in December.
That matters more here because of the soil. Roseville's clay “absorbs moisture like a sponge” in the rainy season and shrinks in summer. Foundation repair in Roseville runs about $1,800 for minor work and $6,800 or more for complex jobs (This Old House).
If you already have water pouring over during a storm, our storm call-out page covers what to do until we arrive.
